Confidence crisis affects rescue preparedness in the Air Force – TV 2

With a lift wire around the rotor managed crew miraculously putting Sea King helicopters the ground safely. In casualty report for the next accident at Support outside Bodø in 2014 directed strong criticism against Air Force.

Was not handled

“The problems that had a negative impact on this event, has been known for many years but was still not dealt with. “

in an internal memo TV2 has gained access to user rescuers and doctors in 330 squadron including this event in order to justify a lack of confidence in the leadership of the Air Force.

“the fact that it is not carried out any measures in the wake of the incident is alarming,” according to the note sent up in the system.

Do not get what everyone else has

Wireless communication between rescuers and ships could have prevented the incident, but in over 20 years, the crews of the squadron operating Sea King helicopters waiting for equipment virtually everyone else has. It has been developed in Norway and is used by police and defense in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, England, the United States and in a number of other countries.

After the TV 2 in several reports a year ago told about how within the governmental Norwegian rescue helicopter service used hand signals and yelling for communication between rescuers and the vessel was granted political command to get replaced hand signals and yelling with wireless connections.

political adviser Audun Halvorsen (H) in the Ministry of Justice said that wireless communication would come.

– When will it be in place?

– We have been informed that it will be shortly.

Does not follow up promises

But after half a year had the senior safety representative Sverre Sønnerheim in 139 Luftving received enough of waiting.

“the Air Force has so far not shown the ability or willingness to meet the requirement of a satisfactory working environment for the personnel conducting elevator operations with rescue and kystvakthelikopter,” said in a letter to management in the Air Force.

It triggered a new promise from the Air Force leadership.

– the first half of 2016 we will have a solution in place, said Brigadier Lars Christian Aamodt TV 2.

However, neither it nor other uncontrollable flight safety measures have been implemented, and when a rescue wire smoke during a test on Orland July 6, was immediately introduced restrictions on the use of the elevator during the rescue mission in mountainous and difficult terrain.

Reduced emergency

– We look at it as serious. It’s a reduced contingency until we have full use of the lift again as previously, says Department Bent-Ove Jamtli by JRCC North Norway in Bodø.

And it can take time. Rescuers and doctors at the 330 Squadron rescue helicopters have prosecuted several serious mistakes with wire and lift that has made personnel rescue and unsafe. Lost confidence in management can only be re-established through a long series of measures, specifically described and communicated it to the top of the system.

– The lost confidence is not back with simple words and phrases. It can only be rebuilt by showing that we are able to act correctly and implement the appropriate measures before one is back on full alert, it says.

Commenting on TV2 ask Air Force spokesman Stian Roen understand that they do not want to discuss matters that go to personnel and working in the media.

– We are familiar with the challenges that exist, and work to resolve these.
