(Dagbladet): DLE Doski (27) and her husband has in recent days voluntarily collected clothes and medicines to refugees and migrants who go through Hungary and Austria on their way further into Europe.
– We thought that this could be a way for us to contribute, says DLE Dagbladet.
The couple from Lørenskog has in recent days received donations from friends and people in the neighborhood, as they have packed in suitcases, bags and boxes. The plan was to bring everything together from Heathrow to Budapest today, via a flight of Lufthansa. This thought the couple would be fine, since they had contacted the airline in advance.
– Was OK
– When we made the reservation called my husband to Lufthansa’s customer service center and asked if it was okay if we took with some additional pieces of clothes and medicines. The answer he got when was that we could bring unlimited luggage since this was for humanitarian aid, says the DLE.
– They also said that they jotted down this on our booking, she continues.
The couple then contacted the tour operator they had booked tickets via, and got the same message from them, according to the DLE.
– They said that they saw this note on the reservation, and that it was therefore OK, she says.
Got stopped
But when the couple arrived at Gardermoen today was modest quite another.
– Where did they know nothing about extra luggage, and said to us that we did not take it, says the DLE.
She posted as a post on the Facebook page to Lufthansa where she described the situation.
– I got a prompt response from a lady who was wondering which airport we were traveling from . We answered this, but heard nothing more after that, she says.
Two Eksta packages
– We discussed further with personnel at Gardermoen, who eventually agreed that we could include two additional pieces each. We were then forced to repackage and gave priority to bring medicine and medical equipment, and let all the clothes, shoes and blankets stay again, says the DLE.
– we think it’s stupid that it was like this. Lufthansa must keep their promises, and they have common guidelines on whether it is in order or not that one takes with additional luggage for humanitarian purposes. Had we known in advance that we had to put in half of what we had collected, we had not encouraged so many to help, she said.
– Investigating the case
Dagbladet tonight been in contact with Lufthansa pressevakt, who say they are investigating this case.
– What we know as of now is that the two passengers got to bring two extra suitcases each, ie six suitcases total. We are trying to find out what has happened, says press officer, who did not want to be quoted by name.
DLE and her husband did not pay anything for the four extra suitcases they did bring, and says they got the opportunity to bring even more suitcases, for a fee.
– We chose not to use donation money on this because we have not previously had agreed it with those who donated .. We have said it should applied directly to the refugees need after we know more when we are there, says the DLE.
