Progress politicians have called it irresponsible to accept 8,000 refugees from Syria. But in an internal memo accept FRP to accept 7,500 refugees from the country.
VG has gained access to the note, showing how FRP and Right would present the government’s view. The memo is dated June 4, the day before FRP decided to withdraw from the negotiations in Parliament.
The negotiations ended with a compromise that Norway accepts 8,000 Syrian refugees over three years. There are 2,000 fewer than the Labor Party leader Jonas Gahr Støre and the Socialist Left Party had proposed to take over two years.
SV withdrew from the negotiations. It also made FRP, but the opposite reason: FRP said 8,000 refugees were too many.
– We hope to convince people that they have taken this decision, are irresponsible politicians. We will engage in campaigning on this matter and tell the voters how irresponsible this is, said Progress Party deputy Per Sandberg when it became clear that Norway will receive 8,000 Syrian refugees.
But note that VG now sits on coming it emerged that FRP accept 7,500 refugees, 500 fewer than the compromise ended up.
Sandberg said he was not familiar with the note, which was Progress negotiating deals.
– I do not know to any suggestions. When it had been presented to the group. The existence of working document as a basis for negotiation is perfectly normal, says Sandberg.
None of the other negotiators VG has been in contact with has wanted to comment on the matter.
