One device that has been popular with those buying and those developing has been the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Thanks to developers loving the handset there is now a custom ROM for Jelly Bean 4.2.2, which means that you don't have to hang around for the official one to appear.
When you install any custom ROM you do have to take care and you need to follow the step by step instructions very carefully.
Bear in mind that this ROM only works with the AT&T Galaxy Note 2; Verizon Galaxy Note 2; Sprint Galaxy Note 2 and the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 and the handsets do have to be rooted.
Before you rush to install the ROM you need to ensure that there is around 70% battery left.
You may also want to switch off the security on the computer and the device.
Check to make sure that USB debugging has been enabled. Head to the Settings on your handset – Application development and then USB debugging.
You should also have ClockworkMod installed and you need to make a back-up.
You can then follow the instructions to put Jelly Bean 4.2.2 onto your device.
One: Install Samsung's USB drivers onto your PC.
Two: Connect your device to your PC and copy your chosen ROM and Google Apps to your phone's SD card.
Three: Turn off your Note 2 and reboot it in recovery mode by pressing and holding the volume up, volume down and power keys once it's turned off.
Four: Make a Nandroid backup for your present ROM so you can restore it if you need to. Choose backup and restore > backup. You can choose restore if you need to revert.
Five: In the main menu, choose wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. Then go back and select advanced > wipe Dalvik cache.
Six: Return to the main menu and choose install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card. Choose the custom ROM zip file that you've copied onto your Note 2 and confirm the installation. Do this again with Google Apps.
Seven: Once installation has finished, return to main menu and choose reboot system now.
Eight: Your Note 2 will reboot, and this first run might take four or five minutes, so don't worry.
You should now be able to enjoy Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and all that the Paranoid Android, AOKP and CyangenMod offers.
