iPad Mini vs Galaxy Note 2: Size Is Secondary - Auto-o-Mobile

The iPad Mini was released last year and people are wondering how it'll fare against other small tablets. Apple's track record with tablets is good, but it's up against the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in this comparison, which of course has amazing specs.

iPad Mini vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The iPad Mini has an A5 chip, which isn't the fastest around, but it ain't the slowest either. It's great for gaming due to its PowerVR GPU. It comes with 1GB of RAM, and is black or white, with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of memory.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos chip, 2GB of RAM, and an excellent GPU. It comes in 16GB and 32GB, and there's SD support for another 64GB. So, it has a faster chip, more RAM and more storage than the iPad Mini. Moving on.

The iPad Mini has iOS 6 and the LG Nexus 4 has Jelly Bean. The Mini also has access to the App Store and its multitude of tablet apps, which far outweighs the selection for tablets in the Google Play Store. In fact the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 doesn't even use tablet apps, so the iPad Mini wins (grudgingly) here from a tablet apps perspective.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a 5.5" display with 306ppi – higher than the iPad Mini. The Mini has the bigger screen, though, so looks better. So while size does matter, just like how the iPad Mini's launch was bugged by the lack of a Retina display, we can't give the tablet full points here. So this round has to be a draw, as both displays have pluses and minuses.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 camera is 8MP, with a 1.9MP front camera. The iPad Mini has a 5MP rear iSight camera and a 2MP front camera. The Note 2 is the winner, as it takes better shots and is easier to hold while snapping.

The overall winner is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, as it's won more points than the iPad Mini. Nevertheless there are some things that the phablet can't match the iPad Mini with – a lower price tag and lots of tablet apps. However the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has its advantages too, like the fact it is a phone and can make calls, and has GPS and NFC.
