This you have to respond to DNB – Dagsavisen

Today it is expected that DNB delivers his report on the tax haven scandal economics minister Monica Mæland (H).

– What do you expect DNB answers in the report?

– I expect the board to do what they can to bring all the facts. That they find out what has happened. Who did what, who knew what, and why this is so.

And the big question Mæland want answered are:

– Why occurs it business as it should not have done?

Expecting answers

Through the international document leak Panama Papers it has become clear that DNB’s subsidiary has assisted clients in establishing 40 companies in the Seychelles. Of these, about 30 owned by Norwegians.

The state is the largest shareholder in DNB and Mæland have clear expectations of the board of the bank to provide the state with all relevant information.

– I expect that we get answers to the questions we have asked and the information that has emerged in the press, says Mæland.

Since the last time she had a meeting with DNB has come up more new information on the case.

fear not DNB lie

DNB admit that they did not give the correct information to the Minister of industry Monica Mæland when she in 2014 asked the bank if it had dealings with tax havens . Norwegian Minister is curious about what the bank’s explanation for this.

– In 2014 I received a three-page memo that they now believe are wrong, that they gave in the belief that it was correct. So then the question: Why did it happen?

– Do you fear that you may have been lied to?

– No. I note only that DNB states that the information they provided in good faith, are not correct, says Mæland.

– Have a job to do

DNB misstep is not unique among the Norwegian companies where states are among their owners.

Aftenposten also written about partly state-owned Yara who paid $ 2.6 million in bribes to Russian business partners in the period 2004-2009. In 2011, the riot after revelations that the state company Argentum invested in tax havens. Since then, investments increased fivefold, could class struggle notify Saturday.

In the ownership report, it says the government’s expectations of the companies on anti-corruption area. Tax havens are also featured here.

Although it seems as if several of the companies have not followed up the signals from the state as owner, will not Mæland say that she is disappointed.

– I have a job to do, and I do. It’s my job to follow up on the boards. I will do that. It’s my job to point out the controls together with other shareholders. We will also do. And I’ve been very clear that if the boards are not doing their job in this area and other, even as they neither have renewed confidence, says the Minister.

– Felt it in the body

Mæland believes that many of the companies where the state is one of the owners, have learned from their mistakes.

She refers to Norwegian Yara as an example, who was the highest-korrupsjonsbot in Norwegian history at 270 million.

– But as seriously I think the loss of reputation was. Many employees felt the body how serious this matter was. Yara has for this event to such a degree grasped this, and introduced new rules and procedures, said Minister of Industry, who also stresses that new policies and procedures are no guarantee that violations could happen again – in any company.

Have dialogue with Argentum

Argentum, which is wholly owned by the state, now has investments of 12 billion in tax havens, according to the class struggle. This despite the fact that the then industry minister Trond Giske (Ap) in 2011 criticized the practice. Argentum claim they got the green light to continue investments.

– Have you talked to them about tax havens during your time?

– I must check. I have had meetings with Argentum and social responsibility is on the agenda of the Ministry. I personally have discussed this, I dare not say, says Minister of Industry.

Mæland stresses that the funds Argentum has invested in are subject to jurisdictions that Norway has tax treaties with.
