Must fork out 800 million to ensure road users – Smaalenes Newspaper

It costs least 800 million to build median barriers between Hærland and Winton.

800 million, the current path between Melleby and Winton 2.5 meters wider but still gets only one lane in each direction along .

Central Railings and streetlights put up, and it gets some extra overtaking fields. This is a solution that keeps galore, measured on the basis of traffic growth, according to NPRA.

Even by adding highly offensive numbers for traffic growth, will not change this picture, it is claimed.
But the solution is much more expensive than what Road Administration had hoped for. In fact, the more than twice as expensive as originally estimated cost of 402 million dollars.

– Among other significant uncertainty bridges. They must be built wider. We do not tear them, but we must possibly have extra foundations, says Roar Midtbø Jensen.

More solutions considered

Road Administration has also considered solutions with four fields. It is commissioned by Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen (FRP). The cheapest dual option is to build the same kind of way that has just opened in Eidsberg. That is a 90-way permanent overtaking field.

The solution appears as a four-lane route, but is considerably narrower than the native variety. The price tag for this is approximately 1.2 billion.

– The price hike from two to four lanes is not large Midtbø Jensen?

– Yes, one additional cost of about 450 million is an awful lot of money, he said.

He adds that Road Administration is uncertain about the effect of building a narrow road with four lanes over several mil. Such way will still be dimensioned speed limit of 90, but the road can invite motorists to higher speed.

– Ambulance service in Indre Østfold is critical to a tofeltsvei with median barriers, and warns against accessibility problems?

– We have had few complaints about this elsewhere. This solution means that emergency vehicles can pass too heavy vehicles, if these run out on the shoulder of the road. Between Melleby and Winton is also good possible detour via old E18.

Road Administration has also considered setting up mid barriers without making current road wider. This discarded as viable alternative, even as a standby solution.

– The road has got rumble strips at the center, which proves very effective, says District pathway boss.
Also a full four-lane route – which in practice means build a new tofeltsvei parallel with the old one. The price tag for this is 1.6 billion.

Must have political clarification

The note with the various options until now have been exempt from public disclosure, but was released after a complaint from Smaalenenes Avis. The rationale is that it is designed as a response to the Transport Minister.
Local hope Roar Midtbø Jensen to get a speedy signal about what kind of rebuilding Road Administration shall plan between Melleby and Winton.

– The goal is to come underway to establish median barriers on this stretch in 2017, as foreseen in the National Transport Plan. Before this we have started with zoning that we hope to have finished until the middle of 2016, he said.

Tunnel must be rebuilt

If E18 will be built with four lanes until Winton, today’s edition of Hærland tunnel too small. The tunnel can only accommodate three parallel lane and it must then get an extra run. Rebuilding is included in the estimate of 1.2 billion for the cheapest dual option.

Should it however prevented genuine four-lane route further to Winton must also recently opened their allotments of E18 rebuilt from Fellowship Struggled to Melleby.

Then it becomes so, 100-zone until Winton.
