With Android trays PC, Part 2 - Amobil.no

keyboard eats up the text I write, and I’m struggling with accessories.

Espen has covered the telecom industry closely for 13 years and is the journalist in Norway that has tested most mobile phones. He has worked as a news reporter and program host in TV3 and ABTV, in addition to television production in Strix. Today he tests phones and tablets for Mediehuset Tek.

nearing the end of the first week of tablets instead of PCs. I have read through the comments to the introductory article to the experiment. There is lots of good advice about what software I should choose, and also some comments on the choice of the board.

As mentioned last time, I’m working now on a tablet from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 10.1. I could have used any other board. But the task is to check how far I get with an Android-board as a replacement for a PC. When the selection is more limited. The plan is to do the same exercise with iPad and Windows RT. It will at a later stage.

tablet swallow letters, and I get pissed

Now it’s Android that apply. Me and Android.

Heck.

Where it happened again. I had just written a long sentence, and would only correct a misspelling by chopping a few times on the “backspace”.

But what happens? I deleted a character, and then two, and release the button. Then continue your keyboard to delete yourself. Without any opportunity to intervene, I sat staring at the text disappears from the screen. How much will be gone this time?

Having swallowed a couple of sentences is equipped tablet, and I can continue.

So, where was I?

Yes, it was Android and Me, and the question of how long we must fight with one another until we come to a compromise that makes it possible to cooperate.

That

. Now I press “save”, in the hope that it will be possible to retrieve the text next time the keyboard will simply attack. These seizures are a little too frequent, and I know that my patience with this project is about to run out.

Office needed

As one of you wrote in the forum – it is the word processing program and a board version of Photoshop on the Galaxy Note 10.1. Office program called Polaris Office, and can also be used for creating text documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

I have also downloaded Quickoffice Pro HD and OfficeSuitePro with Quick Spell. Quick Spell is a separate app that provides spell checking program with Norwegian dictionary. The programs cost around a hundred lobe, with an addition of 20-30 million for spellcheck.

Where swallowed keyboard enough a couple of sentences. Now I press the “Undo” and wonder of wonders – the tablet regrets, and regurgitates the text again. Was it really that easy?

“Ctrl Z” will not work.

I try my way

Now I should probably write something sensible about the advantages and disadvantages of the various editing programs I have on board. And why do not I just Google Drive, which is free?

It’s hard to say. I certainly could have used any of these programs. When I get time, I’ll look into what features the different solutions support.

Now type in OfficeSuite Pro. It is quite similar to what I’m used to from the PC, and that’s OK. Here’s spell checker, word count and options to format the text. Text formatting do I actually quite rare, but I can create bulleted lists, indent and much more. The goal is to try all the solutions – I have three weeks left.

Big screen, but poor resolution

tmp_172847382. This layout is reminiscent of the PC, but the machine is still a tablet with Android, apps, and occasionally quite nerve-racking interface.

I must make a confession. I use a large screen. The board does not have a HDMI output, but I got hold of an adapter that I could plug into the charging port on the Galaxy Note 10.1.

You can say a lot about Samsung accessories, but why the hell is it impossible to use the keyboard and big screen at the same time? I plugged the adapter into the port on the board, popping image of Galaxy Note 10.1 to the screen. But when I put the tablet to the keyboard dock, and plug the adapter into the port on the dock, it comes no picture. No idea what adapter, ports and docks for something, does not it so much.

point is that you must choose between the big screen, or Samsung keypad.

resolution on the big screen is the same as on your tablet. The tablet’s resolution to live with. On the 23-inch screen I have on the desktop during scanty underdog.

solution was to provide a new keyboard. I chose a Targus keyboard with Bluetooth. The result is that I now have an external monitor, external keyboard and mouse to the tablet.

Still not a PC

Feel free to argue that I hereby have moved some distance away from it to work on a tablet. But it is the tablet which is the core of the layout. Keyboard dock can I use when on the move, while display and Bluetooh keyboard shall be left at the office.

accessories make it easier to work on your tablet. But it also creates some challenges.

keyboard has all the letters it should have, and they are in the right place. So far, so good. But when I’m out of habit to switch between applications or shortcuts to different functions, acting as the board often different PC.

I right click on the mouse to select text or select function menus, I’m suddenly thrown out of the program I work in. I use the scroll key in an app, I arrive at the home screen until I know what is really going on.

But now I’ll just post some photos of this article, before I take a looong weekend. The tablet will not be included in the May 17 train.
