Quote Careless Directorate of Health? – Today’s Medicine

Cecilie Alfsen , consultant at the Department of Pathology at Ahus and associate professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, University

Talk on local hospitals and emergency care are encountered assertion that the population is high competence of doctors are more important than proximity to hospitals. The question seems absurd and comparable to ask if plague or cholera. But is it true?

In the CMO evaluation of 17.8.2015 on local hospitals and emergency care (1) repeated the claim several times, with reference to NOKC note from 2014: “Patient safety and quality of health care” (2).

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT? Directorate citing the note as follows: “In a survey of the Knowledge Centre’s patients were asked what they believe are the most important for them in health services. On top ranked health professionals have good education and that the treatment works. This means that people are most concerned that expertise is high and treatment quality is good.

In third place comes close to services “(Section 2.1) and” The population believes good skills and good processing quality is most important “(section 3.3 ).

GALLUP PANEL. What has so NOKC published? They have used an excerpt of a Gallup panel, a population that seeks to reflect the population. Patients are not. Participants (1,147 of 2,100 respondents) has responded to a series of questions about what they would regard as important, if they were to end up in the patient situation.

The first question reads: “By the following criteria, which are the three most important when you think of good quality in the health service in Norway? “(my emphasis). Of a total of 13 criteria has 57 percent ticked for healthcare professionals with quality education, 49 percent for treatment works and 46 percent for proximity to the hospital and doctor. The response rate amounts to 287 percent, which tells us that most have ticked just these three alternative answers collected. The rest of the ticks have spread in no waiting lists, modern medical equipment, respect for the patient’s dignity, free choice of doctor, etc.

YES THANKS TO ALL. Survey NOKC therefore suggest that the majority of respondents are as Winnie the Pooh and say yes to the competence, the medicine that works – and the proximity to the hospital.

If you use references, one should understand what has been done before quoting results.
