boat service has four departures from Nordhordland Bergen in the morning and two in the afternoon. From Bergen to Nordhordland goes three trips in the morning and three in the afternoon.

– There has to be a much more pleasant way to travel than to sit in line for Vågsbotn every day, said Captain Nils Borge M / S Fjord Cat when the route was opened.

Although the tickets are a good deal more expensive for this route than if you had taken the bus at the same stretch, do not boat service by itself.

Receiving subsidies

This one boat service is subsidized by about 10 million a year.

That is the 84,500 journeys were made in 2014 was subsidized by 118 public kroner each.

In comparison, the trip to a bus passenger in Bergen center subsidized with two crowns and fifty cents.

– Yes, the boat is a reasonable costly transport, says Conservative Nils Marton Aadland.

Yet he is one of those who fight hardest for the county to spend even more money on speedboats. He believes that when the use goes up, as it does on this stretch, there is an argument in itself.

– Rush hour fee and higher tolls will make the boat gets its renaissance, and when the use goes up, the need for subsidies less, says Aadland.

Have no obstacles

The boat takes about 20 minutes from Frekhaug kai to Strandkaien, during rush hour. Route time for a bus over the double, but both it and the cars use anything from 30-40 minutes to over an hour on the same stretch of the unpredictable rush hour traffic.

– The boat is our light rail. It has no obstructions and passes accurately. I believe that speed boats will be even more in demand in the future. What remains is to find more environmentally friendly solutions for the boats, said Aadland.
