Samsung Galaxy Note II starts getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in India - BGR India

By: Sambit Satpathy| Nov 24th, 2013 at 04:26PM

Samsung has started rolling out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy Note II users in India via an OTA update. For those who haven't been notified about the update can check their 'About Phone' option in the settings menu. If you are unable to get it, we suggest you wait for a bit longer as Samsung may be rolling it out in phases.

The 4.3 Jelly Bean update brings Galaxy Gear smartwatch compatibility to the Galaxy Note II. Additionally, Samsung is brining KNOX, better RAM management, improved performance and UI and also some security enhancements.

Earlier this week, Samsung had to suspend the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S III users after users reported some issues with their devices. Its early days, and we will have to wait and watch if the latest update brings the same issues on the Galaxy Note II.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Back and Menu Button Not Responding - The Droid Guy

Galaxy Note 2 Back and Menu Button Not Responding

One Android Smartphone user shared to us the problem that he is encountering. According to him, the issue involves the Galaxy Note 2 Back and Menu buttons not responding. He stated that before the problem happened, the LCD of his phone got cracked so he had it replaced.

Although there was no mention how his display was damaged, we could only assume that a strong impact caused by deliberate or accidental dropping of the phone might have been the cause.

A couple of days after replacing the LCD of his device, he noticed that the Galaxy Note 2 Back and Menu buttons have become unresponsive.

The Possible Causes of the Galaxy Note 2 Back and Menu Button Not Responding and its Solutions

Unfortunately, the problem is most probably connected with the impact that cracked the LCD of the phone. It is likely that the sensors located in the area of the Back and Menu buttons have been damaged too. If this is the case, it is strongly advised to have the phone looked at by a technician who specializes in the hardware of the Galaxy Note 2.

A temporary remedy for the hardware problem if you have no way to reach a technician right away is by performing a Soft Reset, which can be done by holding the Power/Lock button until the phone reboots. You can also detach and reattach the battery again to reset the phone. However, these methods will only provide temporary solution to your problem. In addition, these methods will only work if the hardware problem is not that serious yet.

If you suspect that the problem is only software-related, a Factory Reset will probably do the trick. But, then again, looking at the details provided to us by the sender, our best bet is a hardware problem.

United States network carriers are already pushing out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and so far okay with the Galaxy S3 U.S. variant. It is expected that Samsung U.K. will push an update fix for the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware within the region soon.

Effects of Android 4.4 KitKat

Google’s newest Android OS version can help Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and services in various ways such as better RAM management, improved battery standby time, more accurate touch response and smoother feeling compared with Android Jelly Bean version.

Samsung (KRX:005930), on Tuesday, began rolling out the official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware update for users of the Galaxy Note 2 and Note 2 LTE with model numbers GT-N7100 and GT-N7105, respectively.

The Galaxy Note 2 has not received a new official update of Android ever since it was launched with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of the box in 2012. Along with the Galaxy S3, Samsung never updated the Note 2 to Android 4.2.2, according to a report from SamMobile, which said that the Android 4.3 update for the Note 2 is more stable than that of the Galaxy S3.

With the new firmware update — N7100DDEMJ9 for GT-N7100 and N7105XXUEMJ9 for GT-N7105 — Samsung has changed the core user interface to the one that is now found on the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. In addition, the settings app has also been overhauled.

Here is a list of key changes and improvements in the Android 4.3 update, courtesy of SamMobile:

- Support for Galaxy Gear, Samsung KNOX

- TRIM support, which makes the device faster

- Samsung Wallet (Pre-loaded)

- Better RAM management

- New Samsung keyboard

- Updated GPU drivers

- New lockscreen, which includes multiple widgets, improved ripple effect, ability to change clock size and set a personal message

- New screen modes

- Driving mode

- Actionable notifications

- Move-to-SD-card feature

Android 4.4 KitKat Update Schedule for Galaxy S4/S3/Note 3/Note 2 Revealed - IBTimes.co.uk

A leaked document reveals the Android 4.4 KitKat update schedule for some of Samsung’s popular Galaxy series smartphones.

Android 4.4 Kitkat

The Galaxy S4 and Note 3 to get Android 4.4 KitKat is January.

With the rollout of the latest iteration of Android software for Nexus devices, Galaxy smartphone owners could be wondering when Samsung will release the update. As of now there is no official word on the Android 4.4 KitKat update but a leaked document which is reportedly from Samsung R&D, India, suggests the new update schedule for a few Galaxy handsets.

The leaked document, obtained by iTechAddict, shows that Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 are expected to receive the Android KitKat software sometime in January 2014. After this, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 will be upgraded sometime between March and April next year.

Android 4.4 KitKat

Expected Android 4.4 KitKat update schedule for Galaxy smartphones.

Currently, there is no information whether the document is real or fake, but given it is a letter, it appears that Android 4.4 will not be quite far, at least for the Galaxy S4 and Note 3. But this depends on Samsung getting everything done in time. With TouchWiz, which is getting heavier with more features packed in each iteration of Android, porting all features to Android KitKat is not an easy and quick task, notes Sammobile

Samsung, hopefully, takes its time testing the update before the public release as a quick rollout may bring bug issues. Recently, Samsung suspended the Android 4.3 upgrade service for the Galaxy S3 following users’ complaint over bug issues. After the update was released, Galaxy S3 users started complaining of multiple problems such as wake-up lag, random freezing, faster than normal battery drain, Bluetooth audio issue, poor RAM management and Wi-Fi issue.

Samsung has acknowledged the problems and is investigating the issues with Android 4.3 for Galaxy S3. Besides, it has promised to resume the upgrading service at the earliest.

The Galaxy S4 received Android 4.3 last month following which Samsung seeded Android 4.3 for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 whereas the Galaxy Note 3 comes with Android 4.3 pre-loaded.

Sprint's Galaxy Note 2, AT&T's Galaxy S3 get Android 4.3 updates all with ... - IntoMobile

After international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II got its Android 4.3 update, Sprint is following suit with its own specific version of Sammy's phablet. Aside from all the platform changes, the new firmware also includes Galaxy Gear smart watch support, Samsung KNOX secure environment compatibility, and HD Voice enhancements.

Meanwhile, AT&T is rolling out a similar software update for the Galaxy S3. Again, Galaxy Gear support comes included and so do a number of software tweaks that will make Samsung's last year flagship look like a still-hot Galaxy S4. We just hope this software version is better than the one Samsung "offered" to the international crowd and which was buggy as hell; hence the Korean company had to suspend the rollout until all of the bugs are squashed.

Anyway, the big picture is obvious – Samsung wants to have as many of its devices as possible compatible with its smart watch to benefit from the holiday shopping craze. So our question is – will you be getting the Galaxy Gear yourself?

Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Update Runs Into Delays - Gotta Be Mobile

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, which started rolling out earlier this week, has run into at least one lengthy delay as Australian carrier Telstra claims that the update, which it originally said would roll out in November, isn't likely to roll out until late December. And because other carriers haven't announced their plans, there is a chance that we could see some delays elsewhere as well.

In September, Samsung announced that it would be rolling out updates to the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, updates that would bring support for the company's new accessory, the Galaxy Gear. Many assumed that those updates would be Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and those assumptions proved accurate in October when Samsung announced all three Android 4.3 updates.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Video - 020

From late October to now, we've seen a number of Android 4.3 roll outs. First, it was the Galaxy S4 that saw its upgrade with Sprint and Verizon among the first to roll out the software. Shortly after that, we saw the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update roll out and then, a few weeks later, the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update started to push.

Of course, these updates haven't been without their fair share of issues. Already, we've seen Galaxy S4 updates pulled in the United States, a Galaxy S3 update pulled in the UK and updates miss their roll out dates in the United States. All in all, it has been a rough ride for many Galaxy device owners. So, it should come as no surprise that we are seeing some bumps in the road for the Galaxy Note 2.

Back in October, Telstra, an Australian based carrier, laid out a game plan for its Galaxy Note 2 users. It claimed that it would receive the Android 4.3 update, from Samsung, in early November and push the update out in late November. This time frame seemed to fall in line with other rumors we had seen. Today though, Telstra acknowledged a change in plans.

The carrier says that Samsung delayed the delivery of Android 4.3 to November 22nd, tomorrow, and that the update is now scheduled to arrive deep in the month of December, far later than expected. While this is a bummer for Galaxy Note 2 owners on Telstra, the delay should also be nerve racking for Galaxy Note 2 owners in other parts of the world.

Screen Shot 2013-11-21 at 9.39.14 AM

Most carriers don't offer detailed timelines like Telstra, so there is no telling when Samsung may have delivered the updates or whether there is a delay. At this point, nobody else has come right out and confirmed anything but at this point, Galaxy Note 2 owners should start tempering their expectations a little bit.

Earlier this week, we saw Sprint announce a Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update and we expect that roll out to push out to all owners in the coming days. AT&T's scheduled Galaxy Note 2 update did not land yesterday, a sign that it might have been delayed. Verizon's Galaxy Note 2 is scheduled to get its update on November 29th so it will be interesting to see if it gets its update that day or not.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 upgrades not only deliver Galaxy Gear support but they bring Samsung KNOX and a number of fixes and enhancements to a device that is just now receiving its first major Android upgrades.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update Released: What You ... - International Business Times AU

After a long wait, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update has finally started rolling out. The rollout only applies to a few selected Galaxy Note 2 users at this point, with the rest of the updates more likely to rollout in the next few weeks. Now that the roll out has started, Galaxy Note 2 users need to know the following important things about the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update below:

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 rollout par for the course, turning out exactly how it was expected. Samsung starts rolling out with one variant in one region; soon, the update spreads to another device, and another, then it goes to different places. On Nov. 20, two devices and two regions got the updated as opposed to one. Is this a sign that Samsung now tries to speed things up? The Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100 now receives the software in India as the Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7105 (LTE model) sees the update in Nordic countries. The staggered approach is expected and Galaxy Note 2 owners should be patient.

For some, there can be two installation methods. Like Galaxy S3′s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out, this update for Galaxy Note 2 is also available over OTA and Samsung Kies. This is important because it means there’s a good chance that at least some Galaxy Note 2 owners can cut down the long wait for Over-the-Air updates and manually install with Samsung’s Kies software but there’s still no guarantee that carriers will offer the update through Samsung Kies.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users who are interested in the Android 4.3 update must proceed with caution. There have been issues that reportedly halted the updates for Galaxy S3 owners in the UK and Galaxy S4 owners on AT&T. Issues and bugs can be the reason why other carriers delay its Android 4.3 rollout. While it may be tempting to update and install the software immediately when it becomes available, it could be better to sit back and wait for user feedback. It’s normal to hear poor feedback early on, and it could be worthwhile staying on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for a bit longer, until feedback becomes positive and installing the software becomes safe. Keep Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 issues and feedbacks in mind as the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 roll out still progresses.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Getting Android 4.3 OTA Update at Sprint - Android Geeks

Update Sprint Galaxy Note 2 to Android 4.3
  • Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 2 L900

These days Samsung is busy updating its most popular smartphones to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. We've recently told you that the international Galaxy S4 got the Android 4.3 update. Samsung also updated the Galaxy S3 (the update was in the meantime suspended), along with the international versions Galaxy Note 2 and Note 2 LTE.

After both the AT&T and US Cellular 4.3 updates for Galaxy S4 were put on hold, now we hear that Sprint is pushing the Android 4.3 to its Samsung Galaxy Note 2 model. Fortunately, the Galaxy Note 2 is the only Samsung smartphone that didn't suffer from the Android 4.3 update.

Android 4.3 is the first major software update released for the Galaxy Note 2 since it debuted on the market, as the phablet was launched with Android 4.1.2 on board and was stuck on that version to this day.

Besides the usual Android 4.3 updates like Daydream, lockscreen widgets, expandable and actionable notifications, and Quick Settings menu in the notification area with customizable toggles, the update rolled out for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 2 also brings Galaxy Gear support.

The software update that is currently rolled out by Sprint changes the build number to L900VPAMK4 and, among performance improvements and bug fixes, it will bring Samsung KNOX, S4/Note 3-like user interface, TRIM support, move-app-to-SD-card feature, tabbed interface for the Settings menu, HD Voice enhancemens, and other such goodies.

If you didn't receive the system update notification yet, you should give it a try and check for it manually in Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for updates. Alternatively you can grab the USB cable and connect your Sprint Note 2 to the PC, then launch KIES.

Just like it happened with the previous software releases, the Android 4.3 OTA update for Sprint Galaxy Note 2 is being rolled out in stages, thus you may have to wait a few more days until it hits your device.

Any Sprint Galaxy Note 2 owners out there? Did you guys receive the update?

Sprint Note 2, T-Mobile Galaxy S3 (Non-LTE) get Android 4.3 - Phandroid.com

gsiii_jellybean_2

Although Android 4.4 rollout news has dominated headlines as of late, some folks are still wondering when they'll be able to step up to the last version of Android Jelly Bean — that is, Android 4.3. We have some news for a couple different groups of Samsung's customers in that regard, thankfully.

For starters, the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is now getting its Android 4.3 upgrade. Alongside the under-the-hood and minor changes Android 4.3 brought, this upgrade brings us Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch compatibility, Samsung KNOX security features, new camera features and more. We're not sure how big this thing is, but getting on WiFi and charging your battery wouldn't be the worst idea in the world before trying to pull it down. Sprint has the full instructions if you need help.

The T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 is also getting that same upgrade, though you should note that only T-Mobile's non-LTE model (the T999) will be treated to the new goods. Those with the T999L version, the one with LTE radios, will have to wait just a tad longer. You can accept this upgrade over-the-air, but there's a manual download and installation tool available on T-Mobile's website if you don't want to go through all that. Be sure to read all the instructions thoroughly and carefully before proceeding,

Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update begins, not in UK yet - CNET UK

Into

Into The Android 4.3 update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Has Begun, finally Bringing new features from the Notes 3 and Galaxy S4 – but UK phone fans will have to be patient as Samsung tries to avoid a repeat of the fiasco S3 update .

Into Samsung UK is playing it coy over the prospect of British phableteers updating Their notes, telling CNET That the update “will be announced in two course.” This as the update for the Galaxy S3 is suspended in the UK over problems with the new software.

Into Notes 2 owners are first in India to begin downloading the update, with no sign of When It will reach other countries.

Into The Notes 2 and other existing devices Samsung Have Been running Android 4.1.2 for a while now, and skip over Android 4.2 to go straight to 4.3. Although they’re not quite on the cutting edge KitKat, with the update older devices get a new look and new features borrowed from newer devices like the Galaxy S4.

Into The new software makes the Note 2 talk to the Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch. Features seen on the Note 3 includes tabbed settings, blackberries customization options for the lock screen and more voice controls.

Into The Note 2 supports the Samsung Knox and business security systems, and the Samsung Wallet app money.

Into Another handy feature is TRIM support, Which stops your Galaxy from getting slower over time by making sure stuff that’s been deleted does not slow things down – Which Should mean a speed boost for your Notes 2 as soon as you update.

Are you disappointed That Into updates take so long? What new features would you like to see on your notes? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

Putting down roots in Berlin after six years of traveling is a major step for Kris Carlon, who has spent more time living out of a tent lately than sitting at a desk. Kris comes to the AndroidPIT Editorial Team via a lengthy period spent writing on art and culture in Australia and other places he has lived. He joined the Android community while resurfacing in civilization back in 2010 and has never looked back, using technology to replace his actual presence in other people’s lives ever since.

A ”preliminary” final build of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has appeared and is ready for you to install. We’ve got a tutorial to walk you through the steps below, but first we must stress that this is not the final official build, but one of the last builds we will see before Samsung releases it officially. This means there will be no major additions or subtractions from what is in this firmware, but Samsung may make some minor bug fixes or performance tweaks before the final rollout. The first test firmware appeared a month ago.

The official rollout will most likely be in the next week, assuming angry S3 and S4 owners don’t storm Samsung HQ and burn the place down for the botched 4.3 updates they’ve been pumping out. The good news is that Sam Mobile have been testing this firmware for several days and are not reporting any of the problems that have plagued the S3 and S4. The cautious amongst you are advised to hold off until it’s official and even then it might be best to wait to install the update until you see the all clear floating around on the internet. You’ll know very quickly if the Note 2 has the same issues as the S3 and S4.

If you’re a maverick and throw caution to the wind, then follow our steps below to get the unofficial test firmware version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on your Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100. The update adds Samsung Knox and Samsung Wallet, as well as some S4/Note 3 UI tweaks like tabbed settings.

And time for the usual disclaimer: flashing ROMs on your smartphone involves inherent risks with which some users aren’t comfortable. If you know what you are doing and follow the instructions below perfectly, you should be fine. There are however always risks involved in tinkering with your device and both myself and AndroidPIT take no responsibility if any damage occurs to your device.

Install official Android 4.3 firmware on Samsung Galaxy S4

  1. Download the firmware here: Android 4.3 test firmware for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100.
  2. Unzip the zip file, and you will get two files with the extension .tar.md5 and a file with the extension .tar
  3. Download Odin 3.09 (from the above linked page also), and unpack the .zip file.
  4. Launch Odin.
  5. Reboot your Galaxy Note 2 in download mode (Volume Down + Power + Home button).
  6. Connect your Galaxy Note 2 via USB cable to your computer and wait for Odin to recognize it. A blue box should then appear (in the program).
  7. Add: AP_N7100XXUEMK4_2099172_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 to AP
  8. Add: BL_N7100XXUEMK4_2099172_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 to BL
  9. Add: CP_N7100DDEMJ9_REV08_CL1423182.tar.md5 to CP
  10. Add: CSC_ODD_N7100ODDEMK1_2099172_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5to CSC
  11. Make sure that the re-partition box is not checked.
  12. Click Start and wait a few minutes until the procedure ends. Do not disconnect your Note 2, be patient.
  13. Once your Galaxy Note 2 restarts, it’s over!

As usual, if you have any concerns at startup, perform a wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode (Volume Up + Power + Home button).

Have a play around and let us know if there’s anything weird going on for you.
